High performance has a cost the productivity tools do not cover
- High-performance environments reward staying switched on, which makes switching off structurally difficult
- Munich's cost of living means financial pressure is a constant undercurrent even for well-paid professionals
- English-language resources for stress and wellbeing are thinner in Munich than in Berlin or London
- Weekends rarely feel long enough to genuinely recover before Monday
- You have tried mindfulness apps or yoga classes but they address the symptom without the root
- Sleep is technically adequate but not deeply restorative
A skill for the nervous system, learned in one weekend
The Art of Living Part 1 course teaches Sudarshan Kriya (SKY) breathwork in three structured days with a certified teacher. It is a complete practice you learn once and use every day. The course is available in person in Munich and live online. English-friendly sessions mean you learn in the language you think in.

Munich's international community and the gap SKY fills
Munich has a large and growing population of international professionals. Many come for two or three years and stay for ten. The city is well-organised, clean and genuinely liveable — and it is also demanding in ways that are not always visible from the outside. The pace of professional life in Munich's leading industries is high. The expectation of performance is constant. And unlike in larger, more diffuse international hubs, the English-language wellbeing infrastructure here has historically been limited.
Art of Living's Part 1 course — the SKY Breath Meditation course — is a practical response to this gap. It is not a retreat, a workshop series or a subscription service. It is a three-day course that teaches you a complete breathwork technique, with a certified teacher, in a live setting. After three days you have a daily practice that is entirely your own.
What happens during the three days
The course structure is consistent across all locations and formats. Over three days:
- You are introduced to the foundations of the breath and the physiological basis of the technique
- You learn Sudarshan Kriya step by step, with the teacher present to guide and correct in real time
- You add pranayama elements and guided meditation to build a complete daily routine
- You finish with a clear home practice you can sustain independently
In Munich, courses run in person and the same curriculum is also available live online in English. The online format is not a substitute for in-person instruction — it is a genuinely equivalent option that allows participants anywhere in the DACH region to attend without travelling.
Why live instruction matters for breathwork
The depth of Sudarshan Kriya means it benefits from proper learning. Apps and videos can introduce breathing concepts; they cannot adjust your technique in response to what they see. A certified Art of Living teacher can. This is not a small distinction for a practice that works through the autonomic nervous system. Getting the rhythm, the pace and the transitions right in the first days of learning makes a significant difference to what you experience — and to whether you maintain the practice.
Art of Living has been teaching in Germany for decades. The teacher training and certification process is rigorous, and the curriculum has not changed to keep pace with trends. What you learn in Munich is the same technique taught in the same way in over 150 countries.
The next steps, if you want them
Many participants attend the Part 1 course and find it sufficient as a standalone practice. For those who want to go further, there are two common next steps. The Sahaj Samadhi meditation course teaches effortless mantra meditation over three days and complements SKY as a daily practice. The Art of Living silent retreat at Bad Antogast — roughly two hours from Munich in the Black Forest — takes the practice into a 5 or 6-day immersive environment, from 790 euros including room and board. Neither is required. Both are available when you are ready.

Häufig gestellte Fragen
Do I need to speak German to attend?
No. English-friendly sessions are available specifically so that international participants can learn in the language they are most comfortable in. When you enquire, confirm which upcoming dates have English delivery and the team will match you to the right option.
Can I attend online if the in-person Munich dates do not work?
Yes. The live online format covers the same curriculum with the same certified teachers. It is interactive, not pre-recorded, so you receive the same quality of instruction. Online English-language sessions run regularly and are accessible from anywhere in Europe.
What exactly is Sudarshan Kriya?
Sudarshan Kriya is a rhythmic breathing technique developed within the Art of Living tradition. It involves several distinct breath cycles taught in sequence. It is not a relaxation exercise or a pranayama sampler — it is a complete technique with a specific structure. Research into its effects is ongoing and the findings are cautiously promising; the technique is best understood through practice rather than description.
How much time does the daily practice take after the course?
The daily home practice takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Most participants integrate it into the morning before work. Because you learn it properly with a teacher, you do not need to maintain an app subscription or return to guided audio — the practice is self-contained.
Can German public health insurance reimburse part of the course fee?
The Part 1 course is ZPP-certified under the German prevention framework, which means many German statutory health insurers may contribute to the 295-euro fee. Eligibility varies by insurer. Check with your Krankenkasse or ask the team when you enquire about dates.
